GIC HIMSS Recognizes Congressman Bill Foster for His Work on Patient ID Now

The push to standardize patient identification has been gaining momentum in recent month. The recent surge of interest is due in large part due to the efforts of Congressman Bill Foster, who has helped lead congressional support for the Patient ID Now coalition - for which HIMSS is a founding member.

The focus of the Patient ID Now Coalition is to overturn the underlying legislative blockers to a nationwide patient identification strategy. Specifically, Patient ID Now is pushing for the removal of Section 510 from the Labor-HHS bill in Congress' final budget. This provision bans the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from spending federal funding to adopt a national patient identification standard.

GIC HIMSS will be recognizing Congressman Foster for helping to advance patient safety and data equity through his work with the Patient ID Now coalition during a virtual event May 10, from 5:00pm, CDT - 5:30pm, CDT.
